Dalit Literature & Culture Academy organises 5th Felicitation Ceremony
Dehradun, 13 Mar: The Dalit Literature & Culture Academy held its 5th Felicitation Ceremony at which the Chief Guest was famous writer and lecturer at Jamia Milia Islamia, Dr Ajay.
In his address, Dr Ajay said that despite the accomplishments of the Dalit community in all fields, its people had not been able to become an integral part of mainstream society owing to the rigid caste barriers in India. He further said that even after sixty years of independence, Dalits in India were still facing discrimination and inequality that went against the foundations that free India was built . Dr Ajay was felicitated with the Dr Ambedkar Literature Award 2010. Additionally, Anita Bharti was awarded the ‘Jhalkari Bai Rashtriya Sewa Samman’ and Jeewan Ram Vishwakarma was awarded the Hari Prasad Tamta Award. Other awardees included Daulat Kunwar, who was given the Eklavya Rashtriya Sewa Samman, and Babita Sahrotra, who was given Rashtriya Sewa Samman.
